Assistant Instructor
The Assistant Instructor rating prepares pilots to teach under supervision. A foundational certification with a structured two-step process.

Prerequisites

• Age above 18 • Valid First Aid certification • Completed APPI Tandem pro-course • 100+ tandem flights • No teaching experience required

APPI Rules

Must operate under instructor supervision, maintain liability insurance, report incidents, use certified school gear, and follow aviation + labor laws.

Qualification

Theory exam, APPI system usage, pedagogical tests, student guiding, safety procedures, field class delivery, risk management.

Certification

Issued by APPI Master Instructors after full evaluation & field exam confirmation.

Training

~160 hours covering guiding, risk management, pedagogy, psychology, accident analysis, gear, aerodynamics, and more.

Prerogatives

Step 1: "In progress" trainees work under direct instructor control. Step 2: fully validated Assistant Instructor may teach independently.

Evolution

After 18 months + teaching logbook, the Assistant Instructor may take the APPI Instructor final exam.
