
SIV Tandem Overview
SIV Tandem certification is awarded to tandem pilots who explore the limits of their tandem glider and demonstrate safe, controlled responses under extreme conditions. Conducted above water with full safety support, under APPI SIV instructors.
Prerequisites
• Must hold APPI Non-Commercial Tandem Pilot (NCTP) certification
• Must have valid safety gear for SIV (tandem reserve, harness, etc.)
• Strong active piloting skills required
Training
The SIV Tandem course is conducted above water with motorboats and rescue team on standby. Pilots perform and practice: collapses, asymmetric and symmetric deflations, stalls, spins, spirals, recoveries, pitch/roll control, descent techniques, and full instability management.
Certification
Certification is issued by APPI SIV instructors after evaluating:
• Safe execution of all required maneuvers
• Correct recovery timing and glider management
• Proper briefing, emergency handling, and decision making
• Emotional stability and pilot/passenger awareness
