APPI 4 Progress
The APPI 4 Progress – 40-Day Training Program is a comprehensive, intensive paragliding course designed to take a student pilot from beginner level through the complete P1, P2, Advanced P2, and P3 progression. Over 40 days, pilots train in varied weather conditions, perform 25–30 supervised solo flights, and develop high-confidence skills in ground handling, thermalling, ridge soaring, active piloting, advanced maneuvers, and decision-making.

This course is ideal for pilots who want structured learning, daily flight opportunities, and deep practical experience that builds toward APPI 4-level competency. With strong emphasis on weather analysis, safety, emergency management, and efficient glider handling, students complete the program with the skills needed to fly independently and prepare for XC-level training.

Prerequisites

This 40-day course is suitable for both beginners and pilots with some previous experience. No prior certification is required because the program includes full P1, P2, Advanced P2, and P3-level progression.

Requirements:
  • Minimum age as per local regulations.
  • Basic physical fitness for outdoor activity.
  • Parent/guardian consent if underage.
All flights are supervised, and progression is adjusted to each student’s pace to ensure maximum safety and learning.

Training, Qualification & Prerogatives

Training

The 40-day training program blends theory, ground practice, and intensive flight sessions. Students learn aerodynamics, meteorology, glider behavior, emergency procedures, air laws, and flight planning. Practical development includes high-wind launches, slope launches, active piloting, ridge soaring, thermalling, altitude and energy management, and advanced maneuver control. Daily debriefings reinforce decision-making, risk management, and self-evaluation.

Qualification

By the end of the program, students complete the full P1, P2, Advanced P2, and P3-skill requirements with 25–30 supervised solo flights. They demonstrate consistent control in varied conditions, safe judgment, flight planning ability, and the confidence needed for progressing toward APPI 4-level evaluation. The training ensures a solid foundation for independent flying and future XC coaching.

Prerogatives

Graduates of the APPI 4 Progress – 40-Day Training Program gain strong pilot autonomy: the ability to take off, fly, and land safely on beginner and intermediate sites, analyze weather, thermal efficiently, ridge soar, and manage real-world air conditions with confidence. This course prepares pilots for long flights, cross-country development, and the criteria required for APPI 4 certification.

Evolution, Rules & FAI Information

Evolution

Cross country and performance classes, freestyle and acro classes, speed flying, Handifriend – many options are available in the APPI system to keep progressing after APPI 4.

APPI Rules

APPI 4 Progress pilots must carry a certified emergency parachute for high flights, report in APPI system any accident when involved, contract a third party liability insurance if available, respect the rules and regulations of the countries they are flying in, and keep their logbook updated. APPI certification is internal to the APPI organization and shows no particular right in a country unless recognized by local authorities.

FAI Infos

For citizens and residents of countries where free flight authority (NAC) recognizes officially APPI certifications and delegated to APPI the right to issue FAI IPPI level, the FAI stamp with IPPI 4 rating will automatically appear on their APPI licence.
